They also opened Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan, Wisconsin which the company continued operating until 2011. That same year, the company signed a 10 year contract with Ripley Entertainment to open a location in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada which expanded the company's operations outside the United States. After that, the company started to expand into different areas of the United States (primarily around the Midwest) as well as other states located up north on the east coast.īy 2004, Great Wolf Resorts became its own separate firm from The Great Lakes Companies as a publicly traded company going by WOLF on NASDAQ. In 2001, a second location opened in Sandusky, Ohio which was originally called Great Bear Lodge. In 2000, the resort's name was changed to Great Wolf Lodge. As a result, the Dells location started to expand its indoor water park facilities as well as build on more guest rooms. The first Great Wolf Lodge opened in May 1997 with 117 suites and a 20,000 sq ft indoor waterpark. It was founded by Jack and Andrew Waterman (who also founded the Noah's Ark Water Park in the same area back in 1977). Great Wolf Lodge began as a small indoor water park resort in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin called Black Wolf Lodge. There were waterslides that our five year old could go on with us and kids play areas where our two year old could splash around. The resort was perfect for our two kids, ages five and two. It includes a basketball hoop and raining mushroom water feature. There’s also a family pool with a 4-foot maximum depth. Outdoors there’s a zero-depth family play area with spray guns, slides and more. There are both outdoor and indoor pools including indoor waterslides, hot tubs, a wave pool, and several kids play areas. While we were there, they had games and balloons by the pool. They have kids events and activities every day including bedtime story hour at 8 pm each night, face painting and balloon animals. The Build a Bears are approximately $35 each before clothing. The Wisconsin Dells location includes a small Build a Bear workshop where you can get a wolf, arcade, ice cream shop, kid’s spa, and restaurant. These rooms cost a bit more than the regular rooms. There are rooms available to rent that are designed to look like a little cabin and include bunk beds for the kids. If they are celebrating a birthday, they get wolf ears with a party hat attached. Great Wolf Lodge has several room options including double beds, themed rooms, and condo suites with full kitchens that can sleep up to 16 people! There are several zero-depth areas as well as a family pool with basketball hoops outdoors that’s open during the summer. There are 13 slides and nine pools kept at 84 degrees all year-round. No matter what the weather, you can enjoy swimming, water slides, a kid’s play area, relaxing in a hot tub, and more. The best part of Great Wolf Lodge is the large indoor and outdoor waterpark located in the hotel.
